The ARTS HOTEL GALLERY at the Lancaster Arts Hotel is pleased to present CLAIRE GIBLIN’s exhibit, “Wind Horse – Prayer for Peace”. A third Friday ARTIST’S RECEPTION will be held on August 20, between 5 and 8:00 p.m. Robert Heilman will be featured in the Blanche Nevin Room with his exhibit, “local landscapes”. Jazz musician, Jessica Smucker, will provide music in the John J Jeffries Restaurant area. The John J. Jeffries restaurant features locally grown sustainable cuisine. Happy hour begins at 4:00 pm.
INSPIRATION FOR HER latest exhibit arose when a friend returned after traveling to Tibet. Claire was “struck” by photographs showing thousands of flags seemingly suspended from the sky reaching from one mountain peak to the next. The flags, Tibetan Prayer Flags, placed in a careful order are intended “to show love and respect for the people of earth”. Every flag displaying its own mantra, prayer, symbol and color catches the wind as it blows through the flags and carries their prayers to heaven.
“This is a beautiful concept. Flags and banners, colors and standards have primal meaning in every culture and spiritual belief. Sending our prayers to heaven on the wind, or in the smoke of incense, or by the flame of a candle, reveals our humanity and willingness to express our needs and our hopes.”
The exhibition consists of monotypes on rice paper and acrylic works on paper and yupo (a recycled tree-free synthetic paper). Also included are acrylic big brush paintings on linen and synthetic silk, and the acrylic plates used in making the monotypes.

Claire Giblin, formerly co-owner and Director of Pfenninger Gallery, was born and educated in New York City. Most recently, Claire serves as Curator of Collections for the Phillips Museum of Art, located on the Franklin & Marshall College campus. She studied fine art under the tutelage of professional artist and historian, Vincent Mercaldo, attended F.I.T., Lebanon Valley College and Franklin & Marshall College. Giblin is the recipient of national and regional awards in art, including the 2002 Grumbacher Gold Medallion, and the 2000 National Grand Prize Winner of NAOFA.
Giblin was honored as 2003 "Woman of the Year" by the Women's Center at Franklin & Marshall College. She has curated exhibitions, led workshops, participated in government funded exhibitions, solo shows, joint, invitational, national and international juried exhibits, museum and gallery exhibitions in the US, Spain, Italy, Japan and Korea, and has served as juror and panelist for art organizations and the Pennsylvania Council of the Arts. Her work is in national and international corporate, museum and private collections, and is registered with the International Registry of Artists and Artwork.
